Protection

Universities can be sites of protection, for particular groups of people (activists, scholars, refugees), values (such as freedom of expression and active citizenship), and diverse forms of knowledge (including activist knowledge). These forms of protection are interdependent, with activists more likely to feel protected if their experiences and world-views are reflected within universities, and agendas like academic freedom and decolonisation of universities given substance by the inclusion of people who articulate alternative experiences and world-views.
